Lasik
Surgery

LASIK is a quick, painless laser eye procedure to correct vision issues like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It reshapes the cornea to improve focus, often eliminating the need for glasses. Most patients see results within 24 hours and experience little downtime.

What is Lasik?

LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a popular eye surgery that corrects vision problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. During the procedure, a laser reshapes the cornea (the clear front part of the eye) to improve how light is focused on the retina, leading to clearer vision. It’s a quick and generally painless procedure, often reducing or eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Symptoms

Symptoms of refractive errors that LASIK surgery can correct include:

Blurred Vision

Eye Strain

Difficulty with Night Vision

Treatments

The Common Treatments of Lasik

Blade Lasik

In the traditional LASIK procedure, a microkeratome is used to create a thin corneal flap. The underlying corneal tissue is then reshaped with an excimer laser to correct refractive errors, improving vision.

Femto Lasik

Also called bladeless or all-laser LASIK, this procedure uses a femtosecond laser to create the corneal flap instead of a microkeratome blade. Femto LASIK offers more precise flap creation and may reduce the risk of complications compared to traditional blade LASIK.

Contura Vision Lasik

Contoura Vision LASIK is an advanced form of custom LASIK that uses topography-guided technology and corneal wavefront data to create a highly personalized treatment plan. It aims to enhance visual outcomes, particularly improving night vision and contrast sensitivity for sharper, clearer vision.

Common FAQs

Is LASIK surgery painful?

LASIK surgery is typically painless. Patients may feel slight pressure during the procedure, but anesthetic eye drops are used to numb the eye, ensuring there is no pain. Some mild discomfort or dryness may occur after surgery, but this usually subsides within a few days.

How long does it take to recover from LASIK surgery?

Most patients experience improved vision within 24-48 hours after LASIK. However, full recovery can take a few weeks. During this time, patients should avoid rubbing their eyes and follow their doctor's post-operative care instructions. Many people can return to work and daily activities within a couple of days.

Am I a good candidate for LASIK?

Ideal candidates for LASIK are at least 18 years old, have a stable prescription for at least a year, and have healthy corneas. It’s also important to have realistic expectations about the results. A comprehensive eye examination with a LASIK surgeon will determine your eligibility based on individual eye conditions.
